Grants Funded for 2022-2023 

Through the generosity of Ho-Ho-Kus Families, and our partnership with school administration and faculty, the Education Foundation is proud to announce some of the larger education enhancement requests we were able to grant: 

Flexible Seating and Kinesthetic Furniture: In the interest of the focus and engagement of our students, the Ed foundation is providing flexible seating to various classrooms. Adding these options will enable students to feel empowered to make choices, create stimulation from sensory input to remain focused and task-orientated and importantly will increase colloboration among students.

Author Visits: We sponsored Author Adam Gidwitz visit to the school. He is one of the brightest stars in children literature. He had an assembly for 5-8 graders, a special lunch with select students and writing workshops with 7-8 graders. He is the author of the best selling book, A Tale Dark and Grimm.

Broadway Play: Students in 7-8th grade went to the Shakespeare Theater of NJ in Madison to watch the brilliant performance of Twelfth Night, a romantic comedy by Willam Shakespeare.

John Miller Star Lab: Astronomer John Miller will bring his planetarium and show our classes the night sky. The experience ties in perfectly with the Unity of Study: Space Systems for our 1st grade students. Students observe patterns of the motion of the sun, moon and stars.

Laser Cutting Machine: The laser cutter and engraver would be used as part of engineering, inquiry and enrichment & STEM classes to bring designs to life. Students can make endless variety of useful beautiful and practical items from various materials including wood, leather, felt, fabric, acrylic, paper.

Classroom on the Waves: Three-hour shipboard program where 5th grade students participate in inquiry-based learning stations to examine Hudson River life, perform water quality tests, explore indigenous history, and help navigate the ship.

Spanish Voces Digital: Access to online textbook full of culture, thematic units and assessments for middle school students. Elementary grade students can also access print and digital magazines full of culture and current events.

Mindfulness & Yoga: The PE and Health teachers will be able to structure this program with all grade levels after piloting it with the 5th grade students. It infuses social and emotional learning into the curriculum through mindfulness and yoga.

Interactive Theater: Enhance the social studies unit of the American Dream and the American Revolution by allowing interactive workshop with students and teachers.

iPads: Handful of iPads to allow for learning through coding, digital art, google apps, photography and videography. The new iPads can also be used to take higher quality photos and videos to be use for TV Studio, photography and more.

Concert Bells: Concert Bells for the percussion section to be used by the band and the jazz band.

Positive Behavioral Support in the Schools (PBSIS): Power behavior support in schools for all grades in partnership with Rutger University and the Boggs Center. Curriculum intervention and intensity with the goal of building capacity with school personnel in a multi-tiered system. Create school wide expectations around respect, responsibility, inclusive and perseverance. This program will be co-funded with the HSA.
